Mark your calendars – the featured model for the January 16th, 2023 Porsche Night, will be the front engine transaxle cars, the 944, 924, 968, and 928. So you have plenty of time to shine them up and get them ready for show.
The Ace Cafe Orlando and the Florida Citrus Region PCA hold Porsche Night at the Ace on the third Monday of the month from 6-9 pm. Each month, a different model of Porsche is featured with prizes awarded for the three best cars. Each month we have quite literally filled the parking lot with Porsches this fall, so January is our turn to shine and fill the lot with our front engine transaxle cars. (We have taken a little flak about referring to our cars as “transaxle cars” since most Porsches have transaxles, including the 911, Boxster and Cayman. So we have added “front engine” to the description. Sheeeeeze…)
We have been members of the Porsche Club of America and the Florida Citrus Region since 1998, and during that time almost every Porsche we have owned has been a front engine transaxle car. (We had a 2001 Boxster for about a year, but replaced it with a 924S.) We have owned Porsches since the early 80’s starting with a Copper Metallic 1978 924. We will admit that at first, reception among the “Porsche Purists” was a bit cold, but since then things have changed – drastically. Porsche owners of all models remark, “My first Porsche was one of these – best I ever had.” or “I had one and wish I had never sold it.” or “I really want one of these for the track.” and on and on. Like the 914, any stigma related to our front engine transaxle has pretty much evaporated at these club events. And not just the Florida Citrus Region – we go to a lot of other regions and it seems that our little 924S cars are welcome and appreciated wherever we go. In fact, we have recently added the Appalachian Region in North Carolina to our PCA membership since we go to many of their events and have made so many great friends there.
SO…come join us on January 16 in downtown Orlando at the Ace Cafe to show off our beautiful and interesting cars. As a side note, your car does not have to be a perfect garage queen to show up – we want to see them all. (Please, though, knock off the big chunks of mud and clean the fast-food bags out of the back seat!) Have a drink and a burger, talk about our cars and maybe even win a prize! And if your car is an “outlaw,” that’s good too! LSx conversion, VW 1.8 turbo, whatever – this night is OURS and it only happens once a year, so bring them all!
Also – if you’re not a member of the Porsche Club of America, think about joining up. It’s only $46 a year, and if you join with the Florida Citrus Region (Orlando) and come to one of our monthly meetings in Orlando you can get a free Autocross! Click here to go to PCA.org and join today!
Look for the 924S944.com table out front and come say hello!
